Kirk Cameron Comes Under Fire Over Anti-Gay Comments

Kirk Cameron, known for his role as Mike Seaver on the 80s ABC sitcom Growing Pains, has sparked controversy with comments he made during an appearance on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight.

During a discussion on social issues, the 41-year-old actor did not hold back as he voiced his opinion on homosexuality.

“I think that it’s…it’s…it’s unnatural,” the Christian activist told Morgan. “I think that it’s…it’s detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.”

When asked what he would do if one of his six children came up to him and told him he/she was gay, Cameron replied, “I wouldn’t say ‘That’s great, son, as long as you’re happy.’ There are all sorts of issues we need to wrestle through in our life… Just because you feel one way doesn’t mean we should act on everything we feel.”

Shortly after the interview was aired, Cameron received flak from LGBTQ rights group GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), calling Cameron as outdated as his 1980s TV character.

“Cameron is out of step with a growing majority of Americans, particularly people of faith who believe that their gay and lesbian brothers and sisters should be loved and accepted based on their character and not condemned because of their sexual orientation,” Herndon Graddick, the Senior Director of Programs at GLAAD said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

Cameron also faced criticism from several Hollywood stars, including his Growing Pains co-star Tracey Gold, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Roseanne Barr, Craig Ferguson, Josh Charles, and Sara Gilbert among others, US Weekly reported.

  1. The bible actually does not condemn people based on being a homosexual but rather only teaches that sexual acts outside marriage is a sin for all orientations. This includes 80 if not 99.999 % of the population. Since Jesus included lust under this category.

    • As for the old testament, these people basically had a contract with God to behave a certain way, people in their group who violated this contract were basically sabotaging their whole group. Lot’s of people say if there was proof of God they would do anything. Well, here is a group who tried to do that. They had proof of his existence and tried to make a deal to do whatever he commanded, and they still couldn’t do it. This is also why their culture was harsh to violators and had very extreme rules. They were operating under the premise that the deity is a proven FACT. This is why one cannot take our society as of today and demand the same rigorous rules that they had back then, firstly because you were not part of that contract, and secondly you are not operating under the same premise as they are. Which is why these people didn’t stone the foreign traders samaritans etc that walked into their city.

Yes they did at times attack other cities but each situation has to be examined. Most if not all were done in time of war, wherein they were already attacked and are preventing further attacks, (enders game style) as in some instances the attackers would hit their vulnerable people (the tail end of their roaming tribe -often the weak and elderly). Some pre emptives. In one case, to police the world, debateable indeed similar to how countries today will attack certain groups across the world for atrocities they commit (opressive regimes /terrorist rorganizations/nazis/ etc) or threats they pose to the modern world. Back then it was groups that did things like child sacrifice etc.

  2. It is unnatural, God says so and when did it become ok for the lgbtq to control what people think and say about their lifestyle while they on the other hand can say what they please about people and even call names to those who don’t agree??my mind will never be changed until God changes His and I know that will never happen. You can call yourselves christian or whatever but unless you are believing in the whole word of God and living it God says you don’t know Him and He don’t know you.God’s Holy Word is being blasphemed in the name of perverted sex, and sex is not love ask any prostitute.
