What would you do when someone screams for help and find out that she’s being chased by a man with a machete? Sounds scary, right? But a brave guy, Blaine Hodge, rushed to help a woman from being hurt, or probably killed, by her ex-boyfriend with a machete.
According to one witness, Joe Harris, Hodge’s friend, the woman caught everybody’s attention in a Starbucks store in Bakersfield, California with a loud scream saying, “Help me! This guy’s going to kill me.”
He also added that he saw a guy walked in with a machete in his hand and headed to where the woman was, but Hodge courageously blocked the guy from his path to protect the woman. “Everyone else was running away and he was the first person to run straight to the action. He was like: ‘I’m going to stop this guy, regardless if I get stabbed or not. I can’t let this woman die,’” he told KGET-TV.
Hodge was wounded from the stabbing incident and received 20 stitches to close all the wounds. The doctor said that he needed six weeks to recover. The woman who he helped was also wounded but safe, and very thankful to Hodge for saving her life.
The culprit was apprehended and was then identified as Robert Daniel Rivas, 31 years old. He was charged for the two crimes he committed – attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
Tori Toney, Hodge’s girlfriend, said, “He would do it again. He could lose an arm and he would still do it again. And that’s just Blaine.”
And for Blaine’s medical treatment and recovery, a GoFundMe was created and so far, so good. Inspired by his heroic deed, people have been giving donations. Your donations will really help Blaine while recovering. You may also want to give your financial help to his GoFundMe here.
