A coffee shop in the Roanoke Valley has a little trick of their own to make customers get well-mannered in ordering their coffee. One of their staff, Austin Simms of CUPS Coffee and Tea, thought of doing this unusual thing because they’re tired of serving impolite customers. What he did is he wrote something outside the shop that made it the talk of the town.

The whole thing was just actually a joke. They did this to encourage customers to be kind to the staff by saying nice words while ordering. Austin didn’t know that what he thought was just for fun would be a big hit and would earn the coffee shop a good publicity.

Here’s what he wrote on the menu board outside the shop:

“One small coffee”$5.00“One small coffee, please”$3.00“Hello, I’d like one small coffee please.”$1.75

Seeing this would really make a customer watch his manners to get a big discount. Imagine the price difference. It only takes some nice words to get the best deal.

People took pictures of the sign and put it on social their social media accounts, and boom! It has been viewed and shared on Imgur and Reddit in just a matter of days. Austin was interviewed by reporters and the entire story was also published in a local newspaper the following day in England.

Austin said, “I decided because I need to solve all the injustices of the world to start charging more for people who didn’t take the time to say hello and connect and realize we’re all people behind the counter.”

The sign created a very good result. By then, they would hear customers say, “thank you,” “please,” and “hello,” said the store owner, Olivia Byrd. It had a positive effect and it really worked. For us, this is an important thing to consider.
