It has been four years since that fateful night when former NBA star Lamar Odom nearly lost his life. After surviving the highly-publicized ordeal back in 2015, Odom has since turned his life around and credits God as his savior.

Odom was found unresponsive in a brothel after having a massive cocaine overdose in the midst of partying nonstop for days. He ended up in a coma and spent several weeks in the hospital. While in a coma, the former athlete’s drug-ravaged body suffered 12 strokes and six heart attacks.

Needless to say, it is a miracle that he is walking around today. Earlier this week, Odom took to Instagram to speak about how thankful he is for being alive. He also shared how he’s devoting his second chance in life to more time spent closer to God.

“Nowadays I’m doing the best I can in walking with the Lord. Thanks to Pastor Vernon @drravernon, I got saved at @thewordchurch this weekend. I had to show Jesus my appreciation for keeping me alive!” read the caption to a photo of Odom, where he could be seen raising his arms up in front of fellow worshippers at an Atlanta church.

His girlfriend, health and life coach Sabrina Parr, was seen by his side in the photo. She also expressed her support in the comments. “Nothing better than a man of God! Keep pushing through life baby!! God willing I’ll be right here by your side!!!!,” she said.

Odom’s current situation is a far cry from where his life was at back in October 2015, when the overdose took place. At that time, he was estranged from his reality superstar wife, Khloe Kardashian. Their relationship had fallen apart after multiple incidents of infidelity that Khloe endured from Lamar. Some of their troubles were bared in the reality TV show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.”

Apart from his marriage, Odom’s career had also fallen apart. After playing alongside such greats as Kobe Bryant in the Los Angeles Lakers, he ended up as a free agent in 2013. He was unable to revive his career after suffering a back injury while on a short stint in Spain.

Luckily for Odom, Kardashian and her entire family rushed to his side after his overdose. They helped him with his recovery and Kardashian postponed their divorce just so he could still take advantage of the medical insurance that came with being her spouse. The Kardashian family also helped set him up in a new home and a new life after he was discharged from the hospital.

In an interview with AP News earlier this year, “My doctors say I’m a walking miracle; they’re amazed that I’m here. I always knew I had a strong will. I think my will is even stronger than I believed it was. It’s a testament that God is good. When I woke up and I couldn’t talk or walk I never thought I would be here.”
