The parents and students from Richland County, South Carolina, will have a different school year, and it will be unique. New schools signs will greet them, and they have a positive vibe because the signages invite people to pray.
These school prayer signs look like the standard road signs, but they feature green female and male stick figures in praying position. 2 Chronicles 7:14, the bible verse about God telling people to pray, and ask forgiveness, is in the lower right corner of the signage. On top of the sign is another sign telling people it’s a school prayer zone.
Vanessa Frazier, the director and founder of Christ Teens, came up with the idea. Her organization is nonprofit, and its goal is to train people to spread the word of God. These people whom he called “soldiers,” will help individuals, especially students, to become closer to God through praying.
Vanessa has worked with the South Carolina Department of Transportation for three years. She hopes to “create a wall of prayer around the schools.” They placed the signages on private properties of the churches near schools to avoid breaking laws.
The idea caught the interest of Jane Jorgenson, the pastor’s wife at The Lutheran Church at St. Mark’s. Jane wants to put the signage on their property, so high school kids would have the drive to pray habitually. She believes praying is the answer to all our problems because God is the most powerful, knowledgeable, and the source of all happiness.
Jane said, “God brings peace to hearts and lives if we ask. If high school kids see this sign as they go to school, if they could get into the habit of praying for their problems, it could help them get through the day. God is all-powerful. Why not bring Him into the situation?” She’s happy because the community loves the idea.
People in California and Florida are communicating with Vanessa so they can post the signages near their school vicinity.
Vanessa believes that prayer is the answer. She said, “We want this next generation coming out of our public schools every 365 days to be productive citizens with wisdom, understanding, knowledge, skills, and ability. You know, everything you would want from a graduation class”.
