President Donald Trump is now a protector of religious freedom. He has some critics, but it’s still a good sign for the world. People don’t want to talk about religion because it’s a sensitive matter, and it divides us. Now, if there’s a coalition that will protect religious freedom, people can feel more peaceful.

Trump said, “The U.S. would provide $25 million to protect religious freedom, religious sites, and relics. Also, the U.S. will be forming a coalition of U.S. businesses for the protection of religious freedom.”

The U.S. president said he’s the first to host that kind of meeting, and it’s a high priority for him. He said, “That’s very sad in many ways. Today, with one clear voice, the United States of America calls upon the nations of the world to end religious persecution. Stop crimes against people of faith. Release prisoners of conscience — repeal laws restricting freedom of religion and belief. Protect the vulnerable, the defenseless, and the oppressed.”

The President also said, “the governments of the world to honor the eternal right of every person to follow their conscience, live by their faith, and give glory to God.”

Notable individuals affected by the religious persecution attended the event for religious freedom, which includes Pastor Andrew Brunson. The spiritual leader had been imprisoned in Turkey for two years. Trump expressed, he felt no other president tried to free Brunson. Trump said to Brunson, “We did a good job with that negotiation.” The President said the negotiation wasn’t pretty.

The U.S. president has detractors such as Interfaith Alliance president, Rabbi Jack Moline. The progressive group is organized to challenge bigotry and honor religious freedom. The rabbi criticized Trump’s past proposal about the travel ban of Muslims to America.

Moline said, “President Trump was elected on the promise of a complete and utter shutdown of Muslim immigration to the U.S. Since then, his administration has worked tirelessly to redefine religious freedom as a license to discriminate. If the President is serious about promoting true religious freedom worldwide, he should start with his policies.”

Anyone who has a position in the government will always be criticized because all eyes are on him. Trump might have made questionable decisions before, but his recent efforts for religious freedom is a sign of good things to happen.
