Phil Robertson Says He Pointed ‘People to Jesus’ at ZZ Top Guitarist’s Funeral

Duck Dynasty star, Phil Robertson revealed on his podcast “Unashamed” the message of his eulogy for ZZ Top’s bassist, Dusty Hill.

Dusty Hill passed away on July 28, 2021 at the age of 72.

Robertson, a Christian, was close to the band members and has spent time with them in the past especially during the run of their show, Duck Dynasty. The show ran from 2012 to 2017.

The Duck Dynasty series used the song “Sharp Dressed Man” as the main theme. ZZ Top also played the song at the final episode of the show.

Robertson, now 75, was close friends with Hill which is why he was asked to deliver the eulogy at the funeral.

The Duck Dynasty star said that when he was delivering his message, he was not doing it in a low-key manner. As a matter of fact, raised his voice.

He centered his message around the verses Genesis 4:21 and 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.

In Genesis 4:21, Robertson told the people about gifts and skills God gives to people. In the verse, it cites Jubal who was called the father of all who played the stringed instruments and pipes.

Robertson related this to Hill who played for decades with a bass. He said that Hill was a “connoisseur of picking guitar.” Then he proceeded to give the good news that there is life beyond the grave.

Reading 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, he encouraged everyone about the hope that everyone who believes in Jesus Christ possesses. He quoted the passage in verse 13: “Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope.”

In his summary, he posed a challenge to the attendees: “Jesus has already said ‘whoever lives and believes in Me will never die.’ So, do you believe this?”

This was a bold proclamation of the good news to everyone which is also a great reminder to everyone that we are just passing in this life and that we should put more priority on what lies ahead.

Video timestamped to begin when they tell how the Robertson family was acquainted with the band ZZ Top.
