Actor Pierce Brosnan, most noted for his starring role as James Bond, said that it was through God, Jesus, and his faith that he had overcome the loss of his wife and daughter over the same deadly disease.
The actor’s wife, Cassandra Harris, died in 1991 at the age of 41 from ovarian cancer and his daughter, Charlotte died in 2013 from ovarian cancer as well.
“Such things draw a mark across your heart and it’s always a part of your life. To watch someone you love have their life eaten away – bit by bit, by this insidious and horrid disease – becomes an indelible part of your psyche. It was and is a terrible loss,” Brosnan said.
But “a bit of prayer in your back pocket” always helps, he said in relation to dealing the sadness and depression of losing loved ones, “At the end of the day, you have to have something, and for me, that is God, Jesus, my Catholic upbringing, my faith.”
After losing his wife, Brosnan remarried in 2001 to Keely Shaye with whom he is still married and had two sons. They recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. Brosnan posted photos of them on Instagram with the caption “Happy anniversary my darling Keely, my love forever grows with you.”
Keeley Shaye also posted on her Instagram profile and wrote:
Still the one! Happy 20th wedding anniversary @piercebrosnanofficial ✨ Thank you for the gift of your love and friendship. The world is more beautiful with you in it!
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 summarizes the ideal form of love which God has expressed to us through His Son, Jesus:
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away… And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
