If we open our eyes and focus on the good things that are happening in our life, we will realized that we are blessed more than we deserved.
Sgt. Scott Bass from Nash County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina noticed a young girl walking along the side of the road everyday whenever he was patrolling.
He became worried of the girl’s safety that he decided to pull over and offer her a ride. Bass then found out that the young girl, Jaylesya Corbett, walks two hours everyday from her home to her workplace. She would wake up at 3 am in order to get to her 5am work shift.
When Bass learned about her situation, he knew he could do more than just offer her a ride to work.
“It just kind of really weighed on me and bothered me, and every day that I gave her a ride I just, for some reason, just talked to my wife about her.”
The police officer approached a local Walmart and shared Jaylesya’s situation. The management, without second thought, decided to help Jaylesya.
They donated a brand new Schwinn Fairhaven women’s cruiser bike to Jaylesya so she doesn’t have to walk all the way to her workplace everyday.
“I wanted to help Jaylesya because she walks six miles to work every day regardless of the temperature, rain or shine, stands on her feet during her entire shift and walks six miles under the same conditions back to her home—and that is truly admirable,” Bass said.
“I’ve had the opportunity to get to know her and wanted somehow to lessen her burden of that 12-mile walk,” Bass added.
Jaylesya couldn’t believe what is happening. She had a hard time believing Bass at first. “I was shocked, I didn’t think it was real.”
Bass’s action became viral, Deputy Brandon Medina, Chief of the Nash County Sheriff’s Office said, “I was truly humbled by Sergeant Bass’s efforts when he asked if it was OK to help Jaylesya and to see the happiness and joy he brought to her by his actions.”
What can you say about the determination of Jaylesya? Do you commend the Sgt. Scott Bass for what he had done? Let us know your thoughts and don’t forget to share this awesome news to your friends and family.
