Nurse Liz Smith had struggled to make her dream of becoming a mother a reality. Then her colleagues at Franciscan Children’s hospital in Brighton, Massachusetts, told her about Gisele, a premature baby girl in their care who needed a mom. When they met, it was love at first sight, Smith said. “There was something behind her eyes that I connected to and that somehow she connected to me,” said Smith, who went on to adopt the little girl and watch her blossom.
