Wyatt Jones was just working his daily shift in McDonalds when something happened that would change his life for the better. This happened when mother of three, Brittany Reed went and bought food.
The kids came from football practice and were very hungry which was why they started to cry and ask for dinner. She could not stop them from crying which is why she stopped to buy food at the McDonald’s where Wyatt was working.
When Brittany was about to pay, she didn’t see her purse anywhere and remembered that she left it at home. She was so embarrassed that she wanted to cancel the order. She said, “We go through the drive through to order food. All three kids are now crying for one reason or the other (and) I go to pay.”
Wyatt saw the mother’s need. So he said that he would pay for the bill. This came as a surprise to Brittany who didn’t expect to receive such kindness so randomly. “I wanted to cry. I look at the young man with tears in my eyes just from being stressed and annoyed and say ‘Hun, I am so sorry but I have to cancel that order. I left my purse at home when we went to football tonight,’” Brittany said.
Wyatt simply replied, “No, it’s totally fine, my pleasure.” He then proceeded to use his card and paid for the meal. Considering that Wyatt is a teenage worker, the bill he paid must have been quite a sacrifice for his part. But knowing that he had fed hungry children, he did it for the right thing.
Seeing this sacrifice, Brittany was so grateful that she vowed to pay back Wyatt. She took a photo of Wyatt and then shared his act of kindness on social media. She wrote that Wyatt was very kind and compassionate. And to Wyatt, she wrote, “Wyatt, do not let this world change your kind heart young man for its people like you that will change this world for the better!”
Brittany reached out to Wyatt’s mother and with her permission, she set up a GoFundMe campaign. Wyatt’s mother said that she was even more proud of her son.
The campaign was set up to help Wyatt buy a car which is why they asked for $5000. But people recognized the good deed that the young teenager has done which is why the donations poured in and at the end, it amounted to $44,637.
Aside from the money, the McDonald’s he was working in also pitched in. They declared October 7 as Wyatt Jones Day. To this, Wyatt said, “I don’t know how to put it into words just because of how crazy it was. It’s just a small act of kindness and everything blew up and it’s amazing to think that something like that can get you this far.”
The Bible teaches us that we should do good whenever we have the chance. We are instructed to help the weak, feed the hungry, and even provide for our enemy. So that even if we are not rewarded immediately, God, who recognizes what we have done, will give back to us something we have never thought we would receive.
