The Confidence of being Fully Known and Truly Loved: A Story of Hope Amidst Suffering

Jay and Katherine Wolf were at the peak of their lives. They were living a perfect life together, having their first born child—everything was just so perfect for them, until one day.

Katherine had a condition that she never knew she had until when she was 26. She had a massive brainstem stroke that flipped their life upside down. Katherine almost lost her life at that moment, but God was just so gracious to let her survive. However, the recovery was not easy. Being deprived of the chance to be a mother was probably the biggest challenge that Katherine has to face. But there is always hope. She recovered and was able to be a mother, once again, to their growing son.

Amidst all the challenges that Jay and Katherine faced, both of them was able to see the bright side of their dark situation. Katherine even said that “We have been very blessed to suffer greatly at a young age because it informs the way we live the rest of our life.”

Their story actually teaches us to value and live our lives to the fullest. Today may be the best day but you will never know what tomorrow brings. But one thing is for sure, there will always be hope in God.

‘I may be broken on the outside, but my identity is known on the inside.’ We may suffer greatly in this world but there will always be hope because of the identity that we have as children of God.

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! “—1 John 3:1a

As Timothy Keller said, “To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God. It is what we need more than anything. It liberates us from pretense, humbles us out of our self-righteousness, and fortifies us for any difficulty life can throw at us.” We are fully known by God and not just that, but we are truly loved. This is the reason why we can put our hopes in Him. We may live in this broken world, but we can always trust, we can always put our dependence on the God who knows us and loves us so much.
