Retired Staff Sergeant Travis Mills never let his disability hinder him from fulfilling his dreams and giving hope and inspiration to others. As a quadruple amputee, he always keeps a positive attitude and lives by his motto “Never Give Up, Never Quit.”

Mills lost his limbs after a hidden IED exploded during a routine bomb check during his tour of duty in Afghanistan on April 10, 2012. He unwittingly placed his backpack down on the ground and immediately, the explosion took his legs. Sadly, doctors also could not save his arms.

However, he realized that he could never change the past but what he can do is change the future and the present. He can make the situation better if he just owns up to a positive attitude. After putting his trust in God, his wife, family, and his determination to be a better man, Mills is who he is today. As an inspiration to others, he has traveled the globe talking about his experience with hopes that others too will become resilient and not give up despite whatever situation they may be in. He has also shared his testimony in his book “Tough As They Come.”

Despite being a quadruple amputee, Travis never faltered in his desire to help others, especially veterans. And for this, he founded the Travis Mills Foundation. The foundation “supports recalibrated veterans and their families through long-term programs that help these heroic men and women overcome physical obstacles, strengthen their families, and provide well-deserved rest and relaxation.”

Mills is truly an inspiration about resiliency, about perseverance, and about owning up to your attitude. He continues to inspire people in his speeches and in his desire to spread a positive outlook in life to others who feel that they have lost their will to live. He wants to share the power of believing that one can “never give up, never quit” in life.
