For a second consecutive year, men and women who once lived as LGBTers will participate in the Freedom March in Washington D.C., Saturday 1 p.m. at the Sylvan Theatre near the Washington Monument.
Jeffrey McCall, the founder of the March, a former transgender, drug addict, and prostitute began coming under conviction as he would listen to the Gospel being preached by televangelist Jentezen Franklin, the pastor of Free Chapel, based in Gainesville, Georgia. Finally coming to the point of releasing his lifestyle to the Lord, he professed Jesus Christ as his Savior in a YouTube video.
McCall, created the Freedom March to provide a support community to “connect those who have left the LGBT life, reach out to the LGBTQ community in each city, and equip local churches that are seeking to know how to minister to LGBT-identified persons.”
Luis Javier Ruiz, a survivor of the 2016 Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando Florida, will be one of the guest speakers for a second time. Convinced of the necessity of God in his life, he has been active in organizing a Freedom March in Orlando planned for September 14. In a profound statement, Ruiz shared, “I’ve always said it’s not about gay to straight. It’s about lost to saved.”
A Freedom March was held in Los Angeles last fall, another march is being planned for St. Paul, Minnesota in June.
To those struggling within the LGBTQ community, the Freedom March movement serves as a lighthouse of hope that shines forth the glory of salvation in Jesus Christ, the transforming power of the Holy Spirit, and the seed of the Word in converting someone from a life of captivity to sin to being free from sin by faith in Christ.
