“I think it was a God thing. I think God sent me there,” Eleanor Baker said when she recalled the time when three young men asked if they could accompany her as she was sitting alone eating at Brad’s Bar-B-Que in Alabama.
Eleanor was a widow. Although she has a large family, most of them live far away. What’s more, that night was a day before her 60th wedding anniversary with her husband.
When the old lady decided to eat out, she could be seen going inside the restaurant alone in a security footage. Not long after she entered, the three friends, Jamario Howard, Tae Knight, and JaMychol Baker, followed.
The first one to notice Eleanor was Jamario. While they were talking, he saw her and thought that no one should be left eating alone. He was sympathetic and did something about it.
He asked if they could accompany her, and she agreed. They talked for a while, and he learned about Eleanor’s husband’s death. He was moved and asked her if she wanted to share a meal with him and his friends. Eleanor agreed, and they had a delicious meal together.
“She told me she lost her husband and that tomorrow would have been their 60th anniversary,” Howard said. After their dinner, the young man posted on social media and added that Everyone should take the time to visit their grandparents and older relatives.
Everyone said that they had a good time.
“And it was really just a nice, pleasant evening,” said Eleanor.
Tae said that after they left the place, it was all that they would talk about. JaMychol said that they had a special connection to the older lady. Jamario said that they felt like they were her grandkids.
In Leviticus 19:32, God reminds us to show kindness and respect to elderly. Be kind and pass it on today.
