‘My Understanding of A Lot of Stuff Is Based on Jesus’: Chance the Rapper Says on The Ellen Show

Chance the Rapper, born Chancelor Jonathan Bennett in Chicago, Illinois, candidly talks about his Christian faith during a guest appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” The rapper shares how Jesus influences his life and his understanding of all things.

The Grammy Award-winning artist is not only known for his music but also for his humanitarian works. He doesn’t hesitate to share his blessings with others. DeGeneres mentions that he buys groceries for his fans and donates to charity, having given $1 million to mental health and education, respectively.

Chance the Rapper donated to his city’s Public School Foundation to help support the arts in 2018. In 2015, he and his friends helped the Get Schooled Program raise $100,000 for Chicago schools. Suffice to say, that the artist has a good heart and his heart is in Jesus as he tells DeGeneres when asked why he gives back to the community.

“So my understanding of a lot of stuff is based on Jesus. So like Jesus teaches to be like, you know, to care for your neighbor, for people that aren’t’ necessarily your blood but still a part of your body, because we’re all humans,” he says in the video below.

“…That’s an impactful thing that I think I understood more as I got older,” Chance the Rapper adds.

The 26-year-old songwriter and activist credits his parents for his Christian upbringing. He says part of his understanding about being generous and caring for others comes from his parents, who instilled in him share his blessings to people that are in need.

“You don’t want to just pass them by. You want to try and do something beneficial to them before you leave. Assess your imprint,” he continues.

You don’t have to be rich to be able to share your blessings with others. You can provide for the less fortunate in your own little way. A simple gesture can mean a lot to them and it also means a lot to the Lord. As 1 Timothy 6:19 says, it “will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.”
