Phyllis Brinkerhoff, also known as Mrs. B, is obsessed with one dance song in particular, Hokey Pokey.
“It’s just a fun, joyous, song,” said Mrs. B.
She is so in love with the song that wanted to share her enthusiasm of it to others and even gifted her neighbor, Melanie Mendrys, a Hokey Pokey CD.
“I can see her name pop up on my phone, and I just thought, ‘Oh, it’s the Hokey Pokey,’ “said Melanie.
Mrs. B is so determined to make sure Melanie will be obsessed with the track as well that she constantly talks about the song.
“Hi, this is Phyllis. I really do need to talk to you. The CD I gave you, are you hooked on it yet?”
“And I just would always say, ‘Not quite yet,'” Melanie said.
Little did Mrs. B know that Melanie was planning a surprise for her. She mentioned her 93rd birthday is coming up so Melanie made invitations which was rolled and ribbon-tied to perfection and was sent out to the whole neighborhood.
They were all so excited to join in the fun that Melanie was able to organize a Hokey Pokey flash mob in Mrs. B’s front yard. She is so happy that she danced along to her neighbor and even showed off her little dance moves herself. Who would think that Mrs. B is already 93 years old? She dances like she is just in her twenties!
Melanie said, “The smile on her face was so big. It doesn’t take that much to make someone’s day. And I think we can all do a little more of it.”
Happy birthday to Phyllis Brinkerhoff aka Mrs. B! We are sure her neighbors made her birthday fun and memorable. Rest assured we are all virtually dancing with her because that’s what it’s all about.
