Mom Slams Anti-Vax Argument with her Facebook Post After What Happened to her Daughter: “And this was avoidable.”

“She has been through SO much already. And this was avoidable,” posted by a mom who couldn’t do anything about the struggle that her child is going through.

Camille Echols shared her answer to this question the “Anti-vax” movement had been asking: “Why would my unvaccinated kids be a threat to your vaccinated kids if you’re so sure they work?” There are people who are afraid to have their children vaccinated because of the reason that vaccinations are directly linked to autism.

The  Vaccine Education Center of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia compiled these following studies to educate us about vaccination and its connection to autism. Andrew Wakefield and colleagues conducted a study among 12 children with developmental delay and hypothesized that the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine caused a series of events that include intestinal inflammation, entrance into the bloodstream of proteins harmful to the brain, and consequent development of autism. However, a study by Brent Taylor and co-workers among 498 children with autism or autism-like disorder found out that the onset of symptoms of autism did not occur within two, four, or six months of receiving the MMR vaccine. A study by Madsen and colleagues in Denmark also supported this claim as they included 537,303 children and found out that the risk of autism in the group of vaccinated children was the same as that in unvaccinated children, which clearly makes vaccination not directly connected to the development of autism.

“There are people who cannot have live vaccines, like my daughter, who had a kidney transplant when she was 2 years old.”

Camille Echols posted about the anti-vax dangers after her daughter was hospitalized due to chicken pox. Her daughter, Ashley couldn’t get vaccinated because ‘ she was immunosuppressed and instead of developing immunity, she would have contracted the virus.’ Camille believes that if other parents would vaccinate their children then it will lessen the risk of these unprotected children from acquiring viruses such as chicken pox.

Being a pediatric nurse with over 10 years’ experience in transplant and chronic illness populations, Camille pointed out that she is fully educated regarding the matter and plead all the anti-vax parents out there: “Please, if you are someone who believes your child will get autism from vaccines, PLEASE educate yourself. There isn’t a single peer-reviewed study that came to that conclusion. And the people choosing to skip vaccinations put children like my daughter at risk. She has been through SO much already. And this was avoidable.”

Camille doesn’t point a finger to anyone for what happened to her daughter. She just pointed out that the worst could happen just because of misconceptions. Her post gives us awareness and at the same time encourages everyone to be more educated about this certain issue.
