Pastor Receives Hatred, Loses Job After Tweeting that LGBTQ Events Can Be ‘Harmful’

UK-based pastor Keith Waters is getting a lot of hate after he reminded Christians about the effects of LGBTQ events on children.

Posting a message largely taken from a tweet by Rhode Island bishop, Thomas Tobin, Waters suggested that the LGBTQ “Pride Month” events that usually happen in June may be “harmful” to children because they “promote culture and encourage activities that are contrary to Christian faith and morals.” He reminded Christians not to attend or support these events.

A reminder that Catholics should not support or attend LGBTQ “Pride Month” events held in June. They promote a culture and encourage activities that are contrary to Catholic faith and morals. They are especially harmful for children.

Waters clarified that he did not intend to demean or criticize the gay community since his tweet was meant for Christian believers. But gay or not, people took his message negatively. He received nothing but hate and even received death threats. Worse, he lost his job as an Ely elementary school caretaker because the principal thought his tweet put the school “into disrepute” and that he broke the code of conduct.

Waters, who is from the Cathedral city of Ely, Cambridgeshire, “experienced a string of threats including his wife having to answer the door to funeral directors who had been sent to arrange his ‘funeral.'” An angry local resident in a car knocked him off his bike.

The LGBTQ advocates tainted his reputation with rumors that he “was a child molester” and local councilors called the police to investigate him for a “hate incident.”

However, despite all the hatred, Waters remains true to his Christian faith and beliefs. He stands firm in his initial warning that gay pride events can be damaging to children because of its overtly sexual nature. They “should never be exposed to nudity or overt sexuality, whether that’s at Gay Pride or anywhere else.”

With the help of Christian Concern’s legal committee, Waters has taken his matter into court and has sued his employer for “constructive dismissal.” He believes in the “freedom of religion and expression”  and is determined to fight for this right. He said no one should be forced to resign from their job for “holding and expressing legitimate views.”
