When Carols Evens began his fourth deployment he was more than a Marine, he was a husband and a father of two young daughters. While on foot patrol with his squadron, he stepped on an IED. Carlos lost both his legs and his left hand in the explosion. He struggled with a body he didn’t want and anger towards God. During a quiet moment at his home church he was drawn to the image of Jesus on the cross, and he felt God tell him he could do “all things through Christ”. That breakthrough helped Carlos refocus his attention and find joy in life again.
