A “miracle baby” was born on February 3, weighing only 2 pounds, has no kidneys, bowels, and genitals, making him look like a little mermaid, was named Joseph Shaw. The baby lived for only 24 hours before passing away in his Daddy’s arms. It may be short for some but for his parents, it was more than enough to create a huge impact on their lives.
Stefan Shaw and his ex partner, Chelby, knew that their baby won’t make it. The pair was informed during their 20-week ultrasound that their baby was missing his kidneys and all of the fluid was gone from the amniotic sac.
But God gave a little surprise to Stefan and Chelby.
“We thought the worst but he made it three months more,” Stefan said. “Doctors were shocked he survived so long.”
Joseph came into this world a little bit early. The baby cane 7 weeks early via c-section. He did not have any kidneys, bowels, or genitals and his legs were fused together making him look like a fish.
“When I got to the hospital they said that from the waist down Joseph was like a fish,” Stefan recalled.
But Joseph was a strong baby boy. He was still breathing and the moment his dad, Stefan, looked at him, he felt nothing but overwhelming love.
“I had never seen a baby like my son,” he says. “He was like a mermaid, he was a unique, beautiful baby boy.”
They knew Joseph wouldn’t make it since his condition only continued to worsen. Stefan and Chelby knew they didn’t have much time left with him so, with the help from the medical staff, they baptized him.
“They had to pump air into him while he was being christened to keep him alive,” Stefan said.
After Joseph’s christening, it was time for the baby to go to Heaven.
“We stood around our miracle baby, had him christened for his last precious moments before we had to let him go,” Stefan Shaw recalled. “While I was holding him they took the tube out of his mouth and he died in my arms. It was very heartbreaking and extremely hard to let go of something that meant the world to you.“
Joseph spent only a day on this earth but he definitely left a mark in his parents’ hearts that will last forever.
Faith kept Joseph and Stefan strong.
“Next time I see you son is when I come to Heaven as well,” Stefan wrote on Facebook. “Daddy will always love you son.”
This is surely heartbreaking. What can you say of the video? Share it in the comment section below! Don’t forget to like and share to your family and friends.
